If Portland Window Washers Refused to Work in the Rain, Nobody Would Ever Get Clean Windows

Water-fed pole exterior cleaning works by agitating glass with a brush and rinsing with pure deionized water. The final step is always a deionized water rinse that clears all loosened contamination. Light rain falling on glass during or after this process simply adds more water — which, like the deionized rinse itself, evaporates without leaving residue (unlike tap water or rain, which both contain dissolved minerals).

The one nuance: very heavy rain during the cleaning process can dilute the cleaning effect on heavily soiled glass by rinsing loosened contamination back across partially cleaned surfaces before the squeegee removes it. For heavily contaminated glass (post-construction, hard water staining, heavy ash deposits), dry or dry-ish conditions produce a more thorough result. For standard maintenance cleaning, light rain makes no meaningful difference.

Interior cleaning — rain is completely irrelevant

Interior window cleaning is entirely unaffected by exterior weather. Rain has no impact on interior glass condition, interior cleaning technique, or results. The only weather-related consideration for interior cleaning is access — windows that are wet on the exterior from rain may need the exterior sill dried before interior sill cleaning to avoid transferring water indoors.

Gutter cleaning in rain — works fine, possibly better

Gutter cleaning in rain is actually easier than in dry conditions. Wet debris is heavier and clears more completely from the trough. Downspout flushing with water confirms flow clearly. Overflows from downspouts are immediately visible. The main consideration is roof safety — gutters that require roof access are assessed for wet-surface traction before proceeding.

What Actually Stops a Portland Window Washing Job

• Freezing temperatures — ice on glass surfaces, frozen tracks, and iced exterior surfaces create genuine quality and safety issues.
